Facebook Pet Peeve #1

Okay, I can admit it: I enjoy Facebook. I like keeping tabs on people without having to keep in touch with them. I like seeing pictures of people I went to high school with. I even like reading and writing status updates. And, I love playing Scrabble and Word Challenge.

But, there are some things about Facebook that absolutely drive me crazy! I’ll rant about them here, periodically, when I just can’t take it anymore.

So, without further delay, Facebook Pet Peeve # 1:

If you have time to get on Facebook and update your status to let everyone know how busy you are, then you aren’t that busy. You know the status I’m talking about. It’s not “is working hard today” or “has a lot on my plate,” it’s “will never finish these 3 reports and overdue projects.” Of course you’re never going to finish them, you’re always on Facebook telling people how busy you are!

Okay, that’s my first Facebook rant.

Surely, I’m not alone here. What are your Facebook pet peeves?

Right on Jeff. I hope I’m not stealing a rant from you, but how about, “just got out of a meeting with a horrible client” or “What’s wrong with the people I work with?” I can’t tell you how many times I see these throughout the day and each time I’m amazed. Is it passive aggressiveness at its worst, pure idiocy, or as you say, just not having enough to do? Can’t wait for the next rant. You should post it to Facebook.

Hey Jeffy, keep in mind that our human brains were wired for distraction. It was a lovely invention from God or whomever to keep us on our toes. Like every 10 minutes we were built to look around, check out our surroundings and make sure there weren’t any dinosaurs (wait, no) Wolly Mammoths coming our direction to eat us. SO when we are butt-deep in a report, it is natural for us to go full force for a while, and then take a natural distraction break. Look around, have a snack, check out mail. For some of us, it’s Facebook updates. It’s not like we’re NOT working, that the next 10 hours won’t be dedicated to said report, but our bodies needed a break, and apparently for uber nerds like me (thanks for the call out) I do Facebook. Also, since i’m SO popular, when I don’t update, some of my friends think that i’ve fallen off the Earth. Because when i’m on said report-mode, I also am not replying on Twitter or answering iChat requests, etc. So I update so people know there is a good reason why I am avoiding them. As opposed to the fact that I simply…don’t like people.

Hope that answered your question. Wait, it wasn’t a question. Hmmm. Hope that…made your morning? :)

You almost made my morning, Erica, but not quite yet. See, that’s the thing about pet peeves… they just bug you even when they don’t bother other people or there’s a legitimate reason for them. Contrary to your well reasoned explanation, I will still cringe when I read a status update like that (and contrary to what you’re thinking, this post was not directed at you). I will, however, now consider your response when I run into this pet peeve.

Now, as to how you could have or still could make my morning… post one of your Facebook pet peeves here. I’m guessing you have a few (maybe it’s people who solicit blog comments on FB?).

I remember when facebook was so foreign to you…I feel like I am in one way or another responsible for you love towards the book!

Howdy! It is so nice to be a part of this forum. I hope to contribute very soon on this forum so that people can also learn from my own experiences.

    Thanks and more power!

Hi! I was interested to know if setting up a blog site such your own: http://blabbermouthaz.com/blog/facebook-pet-peeve-1/ is tough to do for inexperienced people? I have been wanting to develop my own blog for a while now but have been turned off mainly because I’ve always believed it required tons of work. What do you think? Thanks

  8. I see headline news, read your blog post, and think to myself, “Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it..”.

  9. The ultimate test of a relationship is to disagree but hold hands.

  10. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both educative and interesting, and let me tell you, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is an issue that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy I stumbled across this during my hunt for something regarding this.
